The start of a new year is the perfect time for a reset. Not a punishing spring clean, just a focused weekend that leaves every room clean, decluttered and easier to keep that way for the rest of the year.
Before you start
- Grab three boxes or bags: keep, donate and bin.
- Gather your kit in one caddy: multi-surface cleaner, floor cleaner, microfibre cloths, a bucket and refuse bags.
- Work top to bottom in each room so dust falls onto floors you haven't cleaned yet.
Kitchen
- Clear out expired food from the cupboards and fridge.
- Wipe cupboard doors, handles, the microwave and appliances.
- Degrease the stove top and splashback.
Living areas
- Dust shelves, light fittings and skirting boards.
- Wipe light switches, remotes and door handles.
- Vacuum under cushions and behind furniture.
Bedrooms
- Wash bedding, including pillow protectors.
- Declutter the wardrobe: if you didn't wear it last year, put it in the donate box.
- Vacuum under the bed.
Bathrooms
- Bin old medicines safely (many pharmacies take them back) and empty toiletry bottles.
- Clean the shower, bath, basin and toilet, and wash the bath mat.
- Replace the toilet brush if it has seen better days.
Floors last
Once every room is done, sweep or vacuum throughout and mop hard floors with a good Floor, Wall & Tile Cleaner. It's the step that makes the whole house feel finished.
Keep it going
Pick one small daily habit, like wiping the kitchen counters each night or a five-minute tidy before bed. It's much easier to keep a clean home clean.
