The best cleaning products in the world won't help if the team using them isn't trained and supported. Whether you manage two cleaners or twenty, these tips will lift your standards.
1. Start with clear standards
Write down what "clean" means for each area, with checklists for daily, weekly and monthly tasks.
2. Train on the basics
- Correct dilution and safe chemical handling
- Colour-coding and why it matters
- Using and caring for equipment
- Working top to bottom, dry to wet
3. Safety first
Provide gloves, PPE and safety data sheets, and make sure everyone knows never to mix chemicals.
4. Give them the right tools
Good equipment (double buckets, quality mops, microfibre and proper trolleys) makes the job faster and less tiring.
5. Check and coach
Regular, friendly spot checks with feedback work far better than complaints after the fact.
6. Recognise good work
Cleaners are often invisible. A simple thank you, a "cleaner of the month" mention or positive feedback from staff goes a long way.
7. Listen
Your team knows what's working and what isn't. Ask them which products and tools make their job easier.
