Cleaning Up After Building Work and Renovations

✍️ Max Products Team⏱ 3 min read

The builders have left and the new kitchen or office looks great, apart from the fine grey dust on every surface. Construction dust is very fine, so it settles, gets stirred up and settles again. A proper, systematic clean gets rid of it for good.

Safety first

Step 1: Remove the big stuff

Clear offcuts, packaging and rubble. Sweep up loose debris with a stiff platform broom, working gently so you don't throw dust into the air.

Step 2: Vacuum, top to bottom

A household vacuum will struggle with building dust, and the fine particles can damage it. A wet and dry vacuum like the Kingfisher 30L handles it far better. Vacuum:

Step 3: Wipe everything

Wipe all surfaces with a damp cloth and a mild cleaner, rinsing the cloth often. Dust turns to paste if you use a dry cloth on it, so keep the cloth damp, not wet.

Step 4: Floors

Vacuum again, then mop with a Floor, Wall & Tile Cleaner. Expect to change the mop water several times. On tiles, a second mop the next day removes any grout haze or dust that settled overnight.

Step 5: The hidden places

Expect a second round

Fine dust keeps settling for a few days. Plan a quick follow-up wipe and mop two or three days after the main clean.
