Members choose a gym for its equipment and classes, but they leave because of dirty change rooms and sweaty machines. Cleanliness is one of the most important factors in keeping members loyal.
Equipment
- Provide sanitiser spray and wipes at every station, and encourage members to wipe down after use.
- Staff should clean high-touch equipment (handles, benches, seats and touch screens) throughout the day.
- Clean free weights and mats daily.
Change rooms and showers
- Clean and restock several times a day at peak times.
- Squeegee shower floors to prevent standing water.
- Pay attention to drains, benches and lockers.
Floors
Rubber gym flooring needs a pH-suitable floor cleaner. Harsh products can damage it. Wooden studio floors need a gentle, low-moisture clean.
Air and odour
Good ventilation is essential. Clean air-con filters regularly and empty bins often.
Make hygiene visible
Automatic sanitiser dispensers at the entrance and wipe stations around the floor show members you take hygiene seriously.
Gyms and studios can find sanitiser, automatic dispensers, spunlace wipe rolls and floor cleaners at our sister company Max Products.
