They cost very little, but dish cloths, swabs and dusters do more cleaning than almost anything else in a home or business. They can also become the biggest germ carriers in the building if they're not looked after.
Dish cloths
Absorbent cloths for wiping counters, tables and drying hands. Have plenty so you can swap them out often.
Dish swabs
The classic South African "lappie" for washing dishes. Durable, quick-drying and inexpensive in packs of ten.
Yellow dusters
Soft cotton dusters for furniture, shelves and polishing. A favourite with domestic workers and housekeepers everywhere.
Workhorse cloths
Strong, reusable, non-woven cloths for heavier jobs in workshops, kitchens and factories.
Keep them clean
- Wash daily in hot water, or soak in a diluted bleach solution (white cloths only), then rinse well.
- Dry them out between uses. Damp cloths are where bacteria thrive.
- Separate by job: dish cloths for dishes, a different colour for counters, another for floors.
- Replace often. If it smells, it's time.
Quick test
If you wouldn't wipe your plate with it, don't wipe your counter with it either!
