Not all mops are created equal. The right mop makes floors cleaner, faster and with less effort. The wrong one leaves streaks, puddles and sore backs. Here's how to choose.
Cotton (kentucky / socket) mops
Best for: large areas, rough floors, spill clean-up, warehouses and factories.
They're highly absorbent and tough. Use them with a bucket and wringer to control how wet they are.
Microfibre mops
Best for: offices, hospitals, homes and smooth floors.
Microfibre picks up more fine dust and bacteria, needs less chemical, and dries faster. Microfibre heads are machine washable too.
Flat mop systems
Best for: hotels, healthcare and fast-moving cleaning teams.
A flat frame with a removable pad reaches under furniture easily and lets you switch to a fresh pad for each room. That's great for stopping cross-contamination.
Wringers make the difference
A good wringer squeezes out more water, so floors dry faster and are safer. A double bucket keeps clean and dirty water separate.
Mop care tips
- Rinse mop heads thoroughly after use.
- Hang them to dry, head down. Never leave a mop standing in a bucket.
- Wash or replace heads regularly. A smelly mop spreads bacteria and odours.
- Use colour-coded mops for washrooms and kitchens.
