Floors are the first thing people notice and the hardest-working surface in any building. Yet most of us mop the same way we did as kids: one bucket, too much soap, and a mop that's dirtier than the floor. Let's fix that.
Step 1: Dry before wet
Always sweep or vacuum first. Mopping over grit just makes mud and scratches the finish.
Step 2: Use two buckets (or a double bucket)
One side holds clean solution, the other holds rinse water. Dunk the dirty mop in the rinse side, wring it, then dip it in the clean side. Your solution stays clean for much longer, and so do your floors. A double bucket and wringer like the B-Line 50L makes this effortless.
Step 3: Measure your product
Sticky floors are almost always caused by too much cleaner. Follow the dilution rate on your floor, wall & tile cleaner, and resist the urge to add an extra glug.
Step 4: Work in a figure of eight
Start at the far corner and work back towards the door in overlapping "8" strokes. This pulls dirt with you instead of pushing it around.
Step 5: Signs out, then let it dry
In any public space, a wet floor sign is a must. Slips are one of the most common workplace accidents.
Bonus: fragrance finish
Want that fresh, "just cleaned" smell for reception areas? Follow up with a pine or lavender floor sanitiser.
