Here's a hard truth: customers judge your entire business by your bathroom. Surveys around the world keep finding that people avoid restaurants and shops after a bad washroom experience. The good news is that a sparkling washroom isn't hard. It just needs a routine and the right products.
The 4-part washroom routine
1. Restock
Toilet paper, hand towels and soap. An empty dispenser is the number-one complaint.
2. Clean top to bottom
Mirrors and dispensers first, then basins and taps, then toilets and urinals, and floors last.
3. Toilets & urinals
- Apply toilet bowl cleaner under the rim and leave it to work while you clean the rest.
- Use thick bleach on stubborn stains and grout lines.
- Drop urinal tabs into urinals to keep odours down between cleans.
4. Freshen
Finish with an air freshener for a welcoming scent, but remember: fragrance should never be used to cover a dirty washroom.
How often?
High-traffic washrooms (malls, restaurants, schools) need checks every 1β2 hours. Offices can usually manage with two to three checks per day plus a full nightly clean. A simple sign-off sheet on the back of the door keeps everyone accountable.
Remember your colour code
Red cloths for toilets, yellow for basins. Never the other way round!
